Me personally. I would see what is selling well in that age group in clothing color and use those colors. Not what the tread is, what they are buying.
Judge the theme by what you are pushing.
I'm redoing a site now which is going after men 35 to 60. The colors seem to be tan, light gray and white. (what they are buying) So those are the colors of the site main page.
That's my 2 cents.
