I usually call my header file immediately after my </head> tag which houses my meta tags.

Good point, and I'll do that with the new pages - but with the exisiting pages, would it adversely affect the spiders if I leave the tags in the header/include? Does anyone know?

Thanks too, F & V - I know where you're coming from, but there are advantages in using php and include files.
