I would not recommend high traffic sites, you gonna end up spending a lot with little results. PPC could bring you good results, if done properly. From my experience I have seen without proper knowledge on PPC systems like AdWords you would end up loosing money as well. But with proper knowledge you can get good ROI.
One other options is Bum Marketing. You may try that getting targeted traffic as well as sales.
