One of the thing I noticed was all of you are assuming that he is asking about this to run a hosting business. Perhaps it could be to host his own personal site and to get the hang of hosting.
I agree that he can run into trouble with his limited expereince if he starts a hosting company with dsl or cable connection, but heck, I still say its the customers job to research any company before entering into a deal with them.
As far as what you say about 'sucking bandwidth', well isn't that more of a prob of the technology (internet connection through cable)? I ask this out of curiosity and unawareness ...
Also, lets look at it realistically ... Whatever you say, these guys are still gonna go ahead ... young minds are always curious ... I would suggest that you guys, instead of trying to dissuade them, guide them to the right materials, so that they can do less harm ...
