a few good links can get a site to a pr4 out of the gate. pr5 is still pretty easy. pr6 a bit harder. pr7 pretty hard. pr8 needs link buying, a great idea, or some great partnerships.
don't concentrate on pagerank as the end all be all of your rankings. it plays a role, but the words in the links are super important. just keep getting links and doing cool stuff which will get more people to link to you. your traffic will continue to go up over time if you keep working hard at it.
also the viewed pagerank is just an estimate. a high 7 is way different than a low 7. the scale is logarithmic in nature. and the indicated pagerank is what your pagerank was after google's last update. it may not reflect your current pagerank as it could go up or down based on how hard you have been working at getting links.
