Question Large skyscraper 300x600 efficiency

I'm thinking of putting the relatively new ad large skyscraper 300x600 in one of my websites, so I would like to hear your first hand experiences.

Is it worth giving away such a massive part of your website for ads?
Or usual combinations of rectangles and square ads work better?
Did you see any change in your earnings after you've tried it?

In short, does it work?

I have never tested this one size out as I would have to figure out how to edit the width of my side column to do so. To much thinking and coding for me. lol

That's a big risk giving up so much real estate on your website. You could sell 125x125 ad blocks instead and stick up a 250x250 adsense blog in there.

On very high traffic blogs such as mashable.com putting this large ad up would be a money maker as large companies target there blog through adwords and have the money to design these huge banner ads to put in there. That huge ad with a ton of text link ads to me doesn't look right.

I'm not sure but I think the blog below has this ad size in the top right column.

That's my dillemma too, I'm not sure that advertisers recognized it as desirable yet. And from lack of responses, plus the fact I haven't really seen many large skyscraper ads makes me want to stick to classics. The blog in your link has large space formed on the right side, but being filled with a picture it doesn't look to bad. My worry is a bunch of text links in that frame

I'm worried if I would select just banner ad's only, there won't be enough good ads's showing that's related to my content that pay any good. I'm a nobody. lol

Did you notice any change in traffic (such as increase/decrease) or it pretty much remained the same?

You might be right about that. I can maybe see that on a wide site. My widest div is 560 or so I don't think I would choose to use it. Also I am one of those people who does not mind ads on sites unless they overpower the content.

I could reorganize one of my newer sites for this large wonder to fit, but in order for content to stay the dominant factor I would have to remove all other images, ads, well almost everything besides the articles. Hence the topic, I have serious doubts the fuss is worth while.

Nope the traffic remained pretty much same...bt ctr had fallen down...personally I think we shouldn't use large ads if we hv a decent blog with fair amount of traffics

I think most of the people here are, but regardless of the fact you should always be searching for better ways to make profit

This ad size is simply too large. It will be a bad experience for visitors and the site may lose some traffic due to too many ads Google's algorithem.

I mean Google recommends it right? Quite a few people on this forum don't seem to like the idea, but I know several internet marketers have had success with skyscraper ads. Test it out for a week and see how it does.
