This is a tried and tested method.
I have been referring a lot of merchants for now selling different products but what turned out to be most productive are the one's on which I used the following steps -
1.) Domain - always get a domain that is closer to the kind of product you are referring to. For e.g. - if you are offering Furniture, try and get a name that has this keyword in it.
2.) Architecture - If you are using a script to make this site, its architecture should be fairly simple for the bots and easily customizable.
3.) Sitemap- DO NOT FORGET this.
4.) Adding Products - Sign up for an affiliate program which has high EPC and good number of products. Upload them.
5.) SEO - Do some on page SEO on your site. Add keywords, description and most imp. TITLE. Optimize your main body content to some extent as well but do not over stuff it with keywords. Keep it natural.
6.) Content- Get some content written, min. 15 pages of unique content (say tips for shopping or a review about a product etc.)
7.) Apply a template - If your site design is crap. Apply a template which suits the theme. You can use a free one.
8.) Do some link building by directory submissions and you are done.
9.) Google ads. I just missed it. Put them on.
If you are using the correct program with higher returns, this will work.
Your investment is mainly - domain and hosting + the script.
But you can easily make a $100 per month just by Sale commissions.
Earnings from Google ads can be less in the beginning say $7 to $10 but have patience. They will catch up soon.
