Affiliate Marketing Worth The Effort?
Life has dealt me a series of bad blows and I have been trying to do this affiliate marketing thing and haven’t got any where with it. Is it even worth my time and effort.

Keep trying! Try to promote your website or blog. 99% of affiliate marketers fail due to bad marketing...
If you don't like affiliate marketing try starting another kind of online business. But I think you shouldn't give up!

I know LOTS of affiliates making very good money so don't give up.
However it's very hard to get started and takes time to make any money. There are so many different ways to start and a variety of marketing methods, so you could have gotten off to a bad start or taken some bad advice. It could be you have picked the wrong market, the wrong merchants or just haven't given it enough time.
The most important thing for starters is picking the right niche. You need one that has demand and interest but is not too competitive, if you're a newbie.
Based on the limited info you've given it's hard for me to know the best advice to give you.
If you can explain a little bit about what you've tried so far I may be able to give you some tips.

I like it a lot better than CPC or CPM programs. With affiliate marketing you can make over $100 per sale

The important thing with affiliate marketing is to keep putting the effort in. You'll find that it certainly can pay dividends but that it's unlikely to make you rich overnight, despite some claims to the contrary.

It can be, but like anything it takes time, money and research to be successful at affiliate marketing. One of the best things you can do is start a blog on the topic of the product or service you are trying to promote.

You could ask yourself this....
Is it worth my effort to learn and succeed at something that has been proven to provide an income?
AND
Should I just give up since it's not as easy as I thought and it requires a lot of work?

If you go for it, it's a good idea to go with something you like and enjoy, too.

There is certainly a learning curve. I think one mistake that people make when they first start is to jump directly into the most competitive markets. For example, don't start out by trying to promote Acai offers via Adwords.

Learning, hard work and persistence are what it takes to succeed online, especially in affiliate marketing. You would have failed if you had gave up. So keep trying.
Cheers!

I have started my affiliate program with some good products though I do not have any website.
Still I am getting almost 900 visitors a week on my blog.
Though I have not generated any sales but I know one day it'll lots of sales - but before that I have to learn something more.
Keep learning and implementing till you get success - life is a struggle - you know

affiliate marketing is not as easy as building sites to make money from adsense
with affiliate marketing you have to get them to click the banner or link - then they have to buy something from the affiliate site - so you need large traffic volume to make enough sales to make it worthwhile, as only a small percentage of people will click the banner/affiliate link, and only a small percentage of those people will actually buy the product
adsense is more or less guaranteed money - they don't have to buy anything for you to make money

By all means give it a try
Just be aware you need lots of traffic to make any money
Some free hosted pages like Squidoo let you build promotional pages (not Hubpages) so you can build a page in about half an hour and link out to an affiliate program
There are a number of free hosting accounts on the Internet that let you build real static or blog sites - with, or without a domain name - so again it's worth a shot - but as well as promoting affiliate products, I'd also put adsense on the pages as well as Amazon targeted ads code from affiliate-script.com in order to make some guaranteed money

Even if the affiliate marketing does not work out, you can use the articles for adsense.

I agree - and having re-read the start of the thread I don't think they'll be in the right frame of mind to make a success of affiliate marketing, as you can go weeks between making a sale
Even a few dollars every other day from adsense will get them in the right frame of mind to make something bigger and better
