One great way to promote it is by creating threads on webmaster forums and forums in your websites niche's announcing it.

For example: Here on the V7N forum, you can create a thread in the JOINT VENTURES section in our marketplace section. Do a little pitch to get people to signup...etc

Do you have a subscribers list for any current clients? Send them a email stating that you now have an affiliate program and perhaps they will join it.

You on any social sites? Send a message to your followers.

Find blogs in your niche and ask to do a guest blog post. Link to your affiliate program in the blog post.

These just some idea's off the top of my head.

How is that link going to help the thread out in getting suggestions for marketing his affiliate program?

or instance, you can select Top 100 Commission Junction affiliates and send each of them a proposal to advertise your affiliate program.

Make your program viral and ignite others to promote it for you.

Old but good example: create some useful info in rebrandable PDF. Your affiliates will be rushing like crazy to share good info with their downlines - and you will enjoy to see the list growing.

If it were only that simple...

It's hard to find good affiliates to promote your product or service these days. You'll have some success if you try it through Joint Ventures, as mentioned, but then even you MIGHT get one or two affiliates from the 50 you've contacted.

Best is to find a few successful marketers in your niche, subscribe to their newsletter, comment on their blogs...build a relationship and get noticed. Then they might possibly promote for you as an affiliate/partner when you personally contact them after some time.

Don't get frustrated if you don't get that much response...be persistant and focus on acquiring affiliates for a while. Or atleast put it in your daily or weekly schedule as a task...

I guess what I see as a problem is that they subscribe to your program - but then dont start to actually promote your product - so basically you have this bunch of affiliates in the program who don't really do anything for you -

I don't run an affiliate program but on a few sites i do what you just described. Sometimes i forget i'm an affiliate of a program because the owner never sends out monthly reports or emails once and awhile about new deals or tips to promoting there product. Sometimes we affiliates need a kick in the you know what to get us to promote your product again.

I like the reverseget.com link that was posted earlier.

Thanks for the reply and the feedback - I totally understand what you mean - at the same time - our program does send out emails - I personally talk and take care of the webmasters and still I find that they just can't be bothered to write back - it is not easy I will tell you that!

Thanks this has given me food for thought as I’m a newbie at all this. Reading the answers is very helpful. However the only thing I can say is “just to keep at it” hopefully you can hook up to a winning combination. You need to get the experience and we learn by our mistakes. I did a Squidoo lens and they say you can nock them out in about 40 minutes. Well it took me a couple of weeks to publish it (and then it was not too good) But the thing is I learnt a hell of a lot which helps with other sites that are similar

A summary

You must find them in the same way you find your customers. Here are some general guide lines

1. Find the target audience – who could be your affiliates. Do a small research on it.

2. Find out what will interest them to promote your products as an affiliate.

3. Prepare the general commission structure that will motivate a prospective affiliate to join your
programme and promote your products.

4. Review your affiliate information page, affiliate terms page and join page contents. Get it
written by professionals if required.

5. Increase your brand awareness through brand advertising to the extent you can afford. Affiliates
always like to promote a strong brand.

6. Advertise your affiliate programme in different affiliate networks, forums to create a general
awareness. You may get some affiliates in this method but there are a very little chances to get
a giant affiliate who may account for a sizable amount of sales

7. Create a database of your prospective affiliates and contact them personally by email, phone
and chat, know their needs and try to make a relationship with them and make a win-win deal
with them.

8. Quickly respond to their queries they raise and solve it if possible. Please remember, a giant
affiliate can continue to give you a good number of sales every month, so you must have time
for him.

9. Make sure the newly joined affiliates have started promoting your business – help him to get
started removing any obstacles if any.

10. Keep in touch with your contacts and prospective affiliates - e.g. send a monthly newsletter
with ideas and offers

Just one quick thought to point 9. - this does not always happen - any tips how to ? I mean they join the program but then dont start the promotion? Why would they do that ?

The may not do it for many reasons. Here are a few

1. Lack of motivation ... They have joined but not sure they will really make money through your affiliate program. Just like ... You purchase a product and next moment start doubting that whether it was a good decision or not. You need to encourage them simply.

2. Laziness - just needs a push from your side

3. confused - not sure how to get start - just you need to tell them how to start quickly

4. Face difficulty - Simply can not start due to lack of knowledge or tech knowledge or the software is not helping him properly.

Traffic to my site is really good - it's not that concerns me - it's the affiliate program - that I want to push - that is where I am trying really hard.

Writing a review about your affiliate program is a great way to get people to your affiliate program. If you don't want to do it you can have someone who is using your affiliate program do it for you.
