Affiliate script utility / website backup app

Hi guys,

I'm new here, need some feedback from someone who's beed doing this longer than I have

We're developing a small product addressed to the web devel community, a desktop backup app that does an incremental backup on the ftp folder at the same time it backs-up the database... Being web developers ourselves we found it really useful in day-to-day operations (hosting crashes or cleans the sites, looses dbs, files, etc) with very easy restore procedures... The app does other things as well...

That's the app, unfortunatelly now my online marketing skills are needed, and sales aren't great... sold about 8 licenses, clients are very happy, 6 of them posted back good testimonials, no complaints...

What I'm thinking now is that we can install an Affiliate app that gives back 25-75% to the advertiser (depending on sales), and when I say affiliates I'm thinking forums such as this ones, where webmasters roam free...

What do you guys think? Will this work? Any other ideas? I'd appreciate any kind of feedback since I need to move in a direction and I don't know where...

How is your conversion ratio for the traffic to www.site-vault.com?

Have you tried AdWords?

The product targets webmasters - purchase high visibility ads on webmaster related web sites.

Work up strong, to-the-point sales copy and post on all the major webmaster "Offers" forums. Some like Sitepoint are paid but may be worth it.

Adding a coupon code with a time restriction and 20-30% off could spur more sales initially. Might be worth short selling to get the juice going on the product.

Remove AdSense from your site - it's unprofessional and is also advertising competing products.

Affiliate program could be a great way to expand if the product sells, the payouts are good, and payments are quick and easy.

Just some ideas, rather vague, gotta run now!

The conversion isn't that great. We have about 30-40 hits / day with a sale a month...

Haven't tried adwords, will try, I just assumed not too many people look for this kind of app, mostly backup network, backup to ftp, etc, freeware stuff, but you have a point, i'll set it up.

Will also do the forum idea offers idea.

The coupon code needs some setup, but it's a very good idea.

Removed Adsense, wanted to for a while, but i just got deflated by the poor performace of the site...

Will also start implementing the aff program.

For an affiliate script I recommend idevaffiliate (www.idevdirect.com).

Its very easy to use, easy to setup, works great (I've never had an issue). You can control all kinds of variables such as payouts, signup bonuses, links, teirs, etc.

Check it out, might be what your looking for.

Oh yea, and once you do have an affiliate program going, dont forget to add it to my site (www.theadb.com)

Thanks Chexx, I'll look into it, I was planning on installing an affiliate app that we developed for some Diablo e-shops, but i'm not sure how well it will work or whether people will trust it, an establisned or 3'rd party product might work much better from a trust point of view.

I was also looking at www.shareit.com, they seam to do some promotion for software products and have an aff program, i'm not that convinced because they look unporfessional (i know this shouldn't be a criteria, but i'm basically a designer ), but they seam legit, do you guys know of other services that allows you to sell / market / distribute your software products?
