Affiliate Programs and Cookies

I love long set cookies on affiliate programs. Case in point - we used to have affiliate ads for a web host on v7n, months and months ago. They were removed several months ago, but people still have those cookies, and they are signing up now, months later.

One year cookies = good thing.

With all the anti-spyware/adware, registry cleaners, etc. it's amazing if a cookie stays on someone's system for longer then a month. But suprisingly they quite often do...which is awesome. Always nice to see some residual sales/leads trickle in months down the road.

I also find myself getting sales from cookies when I have either dropped or deleted an affiliate program.

It's true, some people are just completely unaware and think there is only 1 type of cookie.

Ymmmmm cookies, aren't they great?

Yep lots of anti-spyware does wipe out cookies and some users delete them but many hang around for a long time. Almost all of our program use the longest cookies possible based on the tracking solution being used. Some have lifetime or 10 year cookies. Most cookies wo't last that long but I still think it's good to give affiliates the longest cookies possible to increase chances of earning.

I don't delete cookies...

On a new affiliate scheme I just set up, I set the cookie to 1000 days.

Speaking of cookies, I just received a commission through Text-Link-Ads that had to be pushing their limit on length of referral. I think it was every bit of 3 months ago. lol Still freakin sweet.
