Why are my advertisers abandoning CommissionJunction?
I've just had another advertiser quit the CommissionJunction network.
Some of them have moved to Performics, others have simply closed down their affiliate programs. One moved to Performics and then closed down their affiliate program!
There seems to be a trend here. Is anyone else seeing this?

Will:
Two reasons people are moving away from Commission Junction:
Apparently, after they were bought by ValueClick, they went to hell in a handbasket, not bothering to provide support anymore, nor tracking a lot of sales, etc. Then they announced they were moving away from HTML links to buggy JavaScript ones (see http://forum.abestweb.com/showthread.php?t=73747) and making everyone madder than hornets.
I always had a miserable time using Commission Junction anyway, so I'm not gonna miss 'em, but I gather a lotta folks will.

yup, js links, that was it. I don't use them, but I remember reading it and thinking it was going to make a lot of people unhappy.

Whups; looks as if CJ backed down under all the pressure and decided *not* to go the JavaScript link route after all.
So, Will, now I'm not sure what the answer to your question is, unless it's the ValueClick thing: they're simply not very responsive anymore. (shrug)

You'd think that they would maintain their same business model during the transition period. .. then maybe later implement some minor pro-affiliate changes wouldn't you?
common sense.

I am not surprised your merchants are leaving CJ.
From both a merchant and affiliate perspective, I find them to be difficult to work with.
Our Affiliate Management divison manages programs on over seven networks and I can tell you that CJ is the worst to deal with. They often don't respond to support queries and, when they do, it's from juniors who don't seem to have a good grasp of affiliate marketing.

CJ isn't going to abandon using HTML links.
- OLD NEWS
Earlier this year near the end of Q4 - 2006 they tried ~ proposed that they were going to stop supporting html links - but they got so much flack from advertisers and publishers that they decided againest it.
Originally it was an attempt to cloak links using java script because Google got hip to qksrv.net and started devauling those sites using qksrv.net in excess. You may remember a couple years ago SERPS running rampant with CJ websites. Now, thats not a problem ~ Google is accepting qksrv and jdoqbc.com links - So there is not a need to use java anymore.
Better yet, new ALGO tweeks just recently made a couple weeks ago are allowing more affiliate websites into the top tens. I see this especially so in product searches.

I notice that it's not only CJ that loses alot of its advertisers. I get around 2 - 10 advertisers close on affiliatewindow, affiliatefuture and tradedoubler on a monthly basis. These are all UK networks, but are amongst the largest UK networks.

One thing I notice with CJ is a lack of customer support. I filed a support ticket 2 weeks ago, and still haven't gotten a reply.
Bad customer service. That's a possible reason.
