New Domain or sub-domain, that is the question?

Hi there,

I have a site where I do custom graphics but I want to branch out to put a couple of packages together and sell through affiliates. Is it better to create a site on its own domain, or is it OK to make a sub-domain on my original site, just for affiliate sales?

Your help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Might be best to put up a different site. One for affiliate promotion, one for organic.

Thanks John for your reply. I also had the same question, because I'm running affiliate promotions too.
Just for my curiosity, are there any reasons why affiliate promotions have to be on separate site? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Have a great day,
Peter

If you add an affiliate program, all those people who link to you may choose to change those links to affiliate links. You will lose your organic search rankings.

Thanks for your reply, John
It's definitelly possible what you say, but it seems to me the people who linked to me and at the same time want to participate in affiliate programs that I do, can easyly find such programs on the web because they are well known (commission junction, linkshare, etc.) Links (URLs) to affiliate programs will not increase anyone's search ranking (the content associated with those links will), so what's the reason to drop my link and set up the link to affiliates. Just didn't get a point, may be I don't understand something. Please clarify it, your help is very appreciated.

Have a great day,
Peter
