A little question about affiliate programs

First I'll say I'm a total newbie to affiliate marketing, and hope you guys can help me out a bit.

I've been denied by a few sites with affiliate programs, these sites were more green/alternative health/socially responsible types. When asked for a web site, I had to give them mine, which has nothing to do with the given topics. I wanted to promote them in a pdf, that was related, and stated that but was still denied.

I want to continue promoting affiliate programs in other ways besides my site. Most of these programs will not be green/ socially conscious types, but some may be.

Do I need to be careful with most "normal" affiliate programs, and have something they can see is related, or will most not care? If they are green/ socially conscious types, how do I do this when I have no site that is related?

Thanks for any help.

Before you jump into affiliate marketing, I believe one of the most important things is to build up your website reputation. That will help to facilitate your request to be under the affiliate program.

matthewjohn,

When you apply to the networks, sometimes they will call to speak with you. Just be honest and let them know what your intentions are. Affiliate Managers will help new affiliates in the industry learn the business. They can look at your site and tell you which offer would work best for you.

Matthew,

Affiliate programs are kindda tricky. You have to really research what you want to promote and then see if there is a need and then after you do that you are going to need to do some research on the company that you are joining. Here are a couple of things to ask to yourself when you are researching your company that you are thinking about joining:
1. How long have they been online and in business?
2. How often do they pay their affiliates and have they always been on
on time?
3. Will they give you a sample product to see/use in order to promote it?
(by this I mean that if they are willing to give a demo or such they are
willing to invest in your promotions)
4. Does their landing page draw you in to make a purchase?

These are just a couple of examples of questions to ask....Also some more advice for you is no matter what you are trying to promote online make sure to always gear the individuals which you are leading to another company's product to sign their information (name and email) away to you so that you can build a list as well.

I hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,

Jason Conway

Ya you really have to carefully research about the affiliate program. Although it is free to join sometime there are just using your work and then won't pay. I believe some of them only pay some affiliate but never pay others. We cannot confirm this but there is possibility for this to happen because we don't know what could happen behind especially about sales conversion. So now I basically would only promote program that I know who are behind the program. Who are the owners? What is their real name. What they look like? Does a lot of people trust their program. That kind of thing.

Sometimes, publishers offer blanket approval. You will get automatically approved. Others want to check your site and see how well their products work on your site. If you want to promote things that are not related to your site, try contacting the manager of the program directly. If that fails, create another website and try again

Email the affiliate manager of the merchant you are trying to promote explaining how you will be promoting and you will almost always get approved by them directly.

You will find that many merchants have "Auto-Decline" features setup especially in networks (which for the most part are a mistake), so an easy way get around that is just to email.

Hope that helps!

Keep in mind although you may have attached a message with your application a lot of affiliate programs are automatically being approved or denied. In some CJ cases unless your site is shown to belong to a specific category(when setting up your site within CJ) you will be automatically declined.

Right, which is why you should always email the affiliate manager directly. Many big name merchants will auto approve anyone with "3 bars or more" but if you email them and explain what you are doing, they can manually add you.

If you don't have a site built up yet, get the company on the phone and explain that things are in development, but that you would really like to be able to know you could work with them before you commit major time into website development. Talking to someone one on one seems to turn the tide if you have trouble getting accepted.

You've been made aware that you are being rejected because your site is not relevant to your intended affiliate managers. This is an unambiguous fact. Accordingly you have 3 options: create a relevant web site or blog, which at least conforms to the content of these socially conscious green sites, or find another affiliate relationship to pursue.

Obviously you are not pursuing affiliate relationships which automatically approve everyone. Some affiliate managers rightly discriminate and take the view that quality is better than quality. As a final 3rd option, if you feel that you have a unique and profitable approach to marketing the intended affiliate product which falls outside of the norm of what the affiliate manager is expecting, then you at least owe it to your efforts to communicate this unique approach to the powers that be, at least with this approach you have exhausted your options by going the extra mile before giving up.

Best of luck,
Yosha

Were you specifically told that you were not accepted because of your unrelated content? My advice is to always contact the affiliate program manager and explain exactly how you intend to promote their program, as well as how your method of promotion is relevant to their program

Have you tried Clickbank? You don't need a website to get started. I think it's a good place for newbies. I've found it's easier to get started with Clickbank than say... CJ.com
