Social Bookmarking: is it good for a niche?
Hi,
I have been trying social bookmarking for a few month now and got no results at all. I might get one or two visitor each week even if I submit a new subject every day to all social bookmarking site I know.
My sites are quite specific: marine life identification, fish diseases, stuff like that.
Looks like I do everything good so I am about to think that people on social bookmarking are not looking for that kind of info.
Have you notice if those social site do better for some niche?

we have a same problem too. Maybe people don't like your post, they are not interested on that specific niche. Maybe you should try to submit your link from other categories like "News" Tip huh

you should create a very interesting title when submitting to social bookmark sites. this is the first that attracts a user to your post, a nice and interesting title. since you have some interesting topics with your keywords, you should be able to create something out of it

until now, I use the same title as it is on my site. Maybe it's not the way to do this. I was trying to submit it to categories like pet, hobbies, fish, etc.

Yes, changing the categories could attract more visitors. As you are writing for the visitors, have some interesting stories so as to catch the attention.

Getting your sites socially bookmarked will help you in getting traffic but that is not worthy because it is not targeted and visitors will not spend more time in your site reading the pages. Organic traffic from SEO is the best traffic which helps in conversion.

Traffic for certain topics involves many factors. Socials might help but don't put your eggs in one basket.

Yes, that's right Dina. This is to increase the interest of your visitors to click your links.

I agree, eye catching titles would help lot. I will have to figure how to create an eye catching title for the profile of a tropical fish.

Eye catching titles definitely help, but first check which of the bookmarking site actually give u good traffic, try your hand with some 10-12 sites & check for the trend. I always get good number of visits from StumbleUpon, delicious, simpy & reddit.

Yes agree with you. Stumble Upon, Simpy gives me some visitors a day. Eye-catching or controversial title when you bookmark your article.

Titles should be intriguing, interesting and somehow controversial but don't go off the topic.

I usually use social bookmarks as a backlink to my website.
U should focus on blog comments instead if you want to get instant traffic to your site.

you might wanna check the social bookmarking site if there are people who have the same interest as you are. I mean no pun intended, but how many people would want to read about fish diseases?
1,100,000 results in google for the keyword fish diseases
11,500,000 results in google for the keyword skin diseases
check this, a lot of people who doesnt have aids dont read articles about aids until they got it (i read it somewhere, but research really helps).
your niche is pretty small as opposed to both aids and skin diseases. why not just optimize your site for search engines than relying on untargeted visitors from social networks.

In social bookmarking you need to have a pretty big network of friends for your article to gain some weight in there. Catchy title, keywords etc won't help that much, only after you get at least 30 friends to digg/stumble and such.

Social bookmarking sites may help increase traffic but unfortunately, you can hardly convert them to sales. This is because people there love to read, follow, and leave comments. They don't buy nor click ads.
Therefore, the best way to monetize traffic is get them from search engines. This is where people look for something to buy, not in social sites. However, we can also submit our blogs to related classified ads sites.
