A few tips for youtube promotion
If you put some serious effort into youtube, you will be able to get some good traffic in return - but its takes time. A lot of people expect overnight success with youtube, but that is not the way it works. Everyone would love to upload a video that is viewed over a million times in one day, but that is not how it works.
The Tips:
Take your youtube account seriously. This means that you do NOT upload someone elses material. Do not record a show off TV and post it on youtube. The video will be deleted and you account will be banned.
Post quality resolution videos. Do not use the cheapest camera you can find to record the video.
Do not add copyright protected music to your video. This will get your account deleted and the video removed.
Make your videos fun to watch or informative.
Put your website address at the first and end of the video.
Put a link to your site on the first line of the video description where it is viewable.
Change up your youtube profile. This means changing the background color, box color other little "tweaks."
Do NOT use programs to increase your video views. This is a popular but dangerous trend. If you are serious about your youtube career, do not cheat your view count.
If you need audio or songs added to your video, look for royalty free music, or use the audio swap feature on youtube. The audio swap is in the edit video section.
I have been publishing videos on youtube for about 19 - 20 months. In that time I have uploaded 319 videos, which have been viewed between 2.5 - 3 million times. My videos average 10,000 - 15,000 views daily. Because of all of this, youtube sends more traffic to my site then yahoo. This means that youtube is around the 4th - 5th highest source of traffic to my site.
After you get your videos going, you can apply to become a youtube partner. If you are accepted, you can link your google adsense account to your youtube account and start making money off of your videos. Youtube can open up a whole new world to site promotion, but it takes a lot of work, time and patience.
Becoming a youtube partner is not easy. I know people that have dozens of videos that have been viewed over 10,000 times and they are denied every time they apply. It would be best to wait until your youtube account is about 6 - 10 months old with maybe 100 uploaded videos before you apply to the partner program.
When you get the embed code for the video, click the little star - its on the right hand side of the code. A drop down window will open and you can select colored borders for the video. Add borders to enhance the colors of your blog or website. This feature is often overlooked as people post bland videos with no colored borders. Use the border feature, it just looks more professional.
