Blogs are not that different from the normal websites when it comes to monetizing and promoting them. For example, you need to make searches for finding out which keywords people are using regularly and then attempt targeting them. Then it comes to the matter of links and you naturally need some links pointing at your blog pages and then gradually rankings and traffic would be arriving.

Blogging is being a part of a community, just like a forum. The more you participate in your blog's community (i.e.: other blogs with a similar niche), the more your site will be seen. Don't forget to leave your link when you comment

I'm sure there are easier ways, but I like http://www.onlywire.com to submit to social bookmarks.

It's tough, but if you get news out on a particular topic first, you'll blow up on that post. My two best traffic posts have both been related to news in other countries (Australia, and Canada), while my blogs get a majority of US traffic. Meaning...remember your blog is in a GLOBAL economy.

Don't create too much stupid posts for traffic but write one unique good post which can help many users . Believe me if you can do this than you can get 100+ daily traffic from Google itself . Go and check pro bloggers like copy blogger and others . They write one post but they have powerful information in it which everyone needs .
