30% less traffic this month
I am trying to explain why I have that 30% drop in traffic this month. That's lot!
The only reason I could think about is that I started remake some older post this months. There was not enough info on each of those post so I took the time to make them better and add much more information. Then, I change the date for today's date so people can see the update.
Do you think search engine can penalize me for changing the dates?

I don't think SEs will penalize for changing the date. I just think you lack fresh content. Changing the date doesn't make it fresh, you know.

Changing the date doesn't have to do anything to do with it. There many reasons why you lost 30% of your traffic. It might because google update their algo, you need new article/post on your blog and the link building.

People are way too dependent on Google. Take some time to get alternative traffic sources and target the other search engines some.

Have you posted anything on your blog recently? If you have not updated your site in a couple of weeks, its very possible to slip back a couple of pages in google results pages.
Do you have a site map generator installed that will notify google and other search engines of updates to your blog? If not, I suggest you install one.

Hello,
Thanks for your help.
I don't have a site map. I'll have a look and will learn how to make this on blogspot.
I add a new post every morning (sometime new). This last week, instead of creating a new post, I simply added to some of the old one (from about 100 words to over 1000).
You're right, I rely too much on google (not that I want to). Google represent 95% of the traffic I get from search engines. I have submited my site to all search engines I know and to all sites in the same niche (actually, to all sites I know).
I decided to quit submitting to general directory because I never got a visitor from that. I decided to use yahoo answer instead but I don't post often.

There could be an update in the Big Gs algo In this case, some of your keywords may loss their rank position, and it could be the reason why you loss some of your visitors.
Changed in date is not a factor. I suggest you create more quality content that are rich with your keywords.

changing the date will not affect your website.. it does not have to do anything with it...
probably because you have less time optimizing/promoting your website..

Thank you for your help. My site is still young (7 months old) so maybe it's normal to have some up and down. It's just too sad to see your traffic going up for months and then going down.
I'll keep on working, posting and promoting.

Now you should add fresh content that may help you to bring back the traffic.

I add new content every day. I think I might have found what the problem is. Until last month, the site was about saltwater aquarium only. Now, I want to add a freshwater section to the site so I now post more and more freshwater aquarium related article. Maybe some of my readers that are interested only in saltwater stuff have quit visiting the site daily because of that.
I'll make some test to figure that out.

You should just have links on the side to link to your older posts. No need to change the date to gain more exposure. Networking is also very important. Keep in touch with other bloggers, and perhaps write a couple guest posts too. You need more backlinks to your site. The more backlinks you have, the more credibility your site has, and Google and other search engines like to see that.
