I use many ways to promote my site in my blog. First, this is the most important thing, writing a post daily, if you can't try occasionally. In your articles, use keywords that relates to your website. And hyperlink the keywords with related pages of your websites (not only homepage).

Second, submit links of your blog posts to social network like facebook, twitter and so on.

Third, submit links of your blog posts to social bookmark like LinkedIn, stumbleupon etc.

Then, start commenting on dofollow blogs and put link of your blog (or even your site) to your name. But don't be spammy. You can visit my blog, it is a dofollow.

Finally, put your website url on your blogroll or other link. You can set it up as you want.

Make a new post everyday with some keywords you want to target in the post title. If your blog is about lions than make a post called "Top 10 Lions" and then the next day another post, "Lion zoos" and so on. You won't even need to be backlinking if you focus on long tail keywords as your post title.
