Whats the best way to use a blog to promote my site?

If I got a blog, how could I best use it to drive traffic to my site without it looking like blatant advertising?

Finding a niche would be the first thing you should do, after gathering your targeted keywords write useful stuff. What would you think people would normally love to read about your niche? You have to think as a visitor in order to learn what to provide them with.

I see some professional blogs writing stuff about their latest products and services, others posts press releases and some posts tips, advices and some (at the entertainment business) posts celebrity infos.

Quality and informative blog can be used in promoting your product or site.It is through the backlinks you can make within the whole blog.

Post educational articles, how to's, explain features, or case studies of how your product or service is used sucessfully. Keep your messages subtle not blatent.

Writing good posts and articles on your blog is the best advertising there is, also submit your blog to directories and sites like digg too.

Why hide it? I have a wordpress blog that is a portal to the forum - both are on different domain names. In the side bar of the blog is an RSS feed with the 10 recent forum post, just about every blog article is linked to the forum, forum sections are linked to the blog side bar,,,,,.

If you want to use the blog to promote a forum or another site, do so. And do not try to hide anything.

They are both your sites, use them as you see fit.

You might want to join several forums within your niche and promote your own website by leaving a signature link at the bottom your posts.

Also join social groups via any social network. Also link to your twitter account.

Then bookmark with likes of stumbleupon etc.

Content is the king

write informative posts, describe the benefits of using your product (NOT features, but BENEFITS) write articles related to your niche. You do not have to hide your product, just not over-promote it on your blog

My best answer is SEO and link building.You can have it through building quality links on do follow sites. Remember to publish quality content on your site daily... update it all the time... and get backlinks gradually... Long term would be to build your blog with an increase of backlinks over time, by submitting to relevant directories, press releases, etc. etc. You can produce an autoblog that can generate that type of traffic easily from the tools hosted on this site.

go with an indirect approach and mention a topic in which you gain useful information from the site "domain.com" site something specific that actually pertains to your site and go from there...

then don't make it blatant advertising

First priority for any blogger has to be Content!
if you don't blog well (consistent/scheduled, thoughtful, adding actual value to the topic) then you shouldn't do it.
