Blogging is a slow way to add traffic to an external site (or indeed the same blog) as there are so many new blogs created every day. If you're creating a blog about an already saturated market, then you need to try and be different to get noticed. Publish often (twice a week if you can think of things) and be original - don't just report on industry news or things that people already know. Try and be controversial, or do some research and then give an alternative opinion for something well-known in your field.

Ask other bloggers to review and comment on your new "controversial" blog posts, you may earn links this way. Above all, be yourself. A blog should have the same "voice" throughout, so copying content or scraping will be easy to spot. Also, for the natural way a blog is constructed (i.e. chronological) it's a good idea to add a search feature (like google's custom search) to your blog, and encourage users to use it - thus lowering bounce rates and filling more content.

Patience is really needed, and you need to be looking at maybe the first 3 or 4 months with no-one arriving unless you plug the content. But stick with it. If you have interesting things to say, people will find you through the search engines, or otherwise.

A rule you must consider: Pick a topic and stick with it! Focus only on the topic you are blogging. That will keep visitors concentration on a certain topic.

I would say the hardest part for me is to update it a couple times a week.. I am so busy link building now that I find it hard to find time. That fresh content is good on your own blog ya know. And as for being a good blogger on other peoples site- just be to the point but yet care about what the blogs are saying. Never be offensive or annoying or the backlinks will be pointless.

To be a good blogger, you really need to work very hard at the beginning, you need to post as much posts as you can and make sure they are all centered around one topic.
And finally, you can only be referred to as a good blogger if you have a good number of audience. so apart from posting, you should also apply some seo techniques to promote your blog in search engines so that you can get a good amount of daily visitors. Thats why i said earlier that you need to work very hard.

make your blog about a specific topic.. that way if your visitors read something that they like .. they will keep coming back if they are interested in the subject.
Also try to be unique, and dont be copying content and stuff from other sites.

Be sure you have a GOOD content and use all the methods to advertise it then only you will be able to earn. And traffic will follow. Also, if your blog is new don't put Adsense because they might think that you just want to earn money.
