My tip for bloggers

Okay, I'm not a marketing genius, and all my businesses are run on shoe string budgets, but you can get publicity for FREE - I do, and even though it's only been two publications, both have brought over 1,000 visitors to my websites.

So how I do it?

It's really easy and I can't understand why I didn't think of this before.

Go to your local store that sells magazines, i.e. internet magazines, travel magazines, and write down the name of the titles (you could obviously do this research online aswell)

Then visit the websites for these magazines and find the editors email address.

Write a VERY short email which basically says "Hey your magazine is cool, love reading it - just thought I'd drop you a quick email to tell you about my blog, which features blah blah blah"

Keep it short - no bullshit or waffling.

Then at some stage in the future you might find a link to your blog in the magazine - okay it could be next issue 2 months or even a year. I did this, and within 3 months both publications posted my blog in one way or another.

Might not work for all so don't sue me

That does seem like a good idea, albeit almost like russian roulette. I'm curious, how many publications published a link to your blog compared to how many you sent an email to?

I'd think that it wouldn't take all that much time to send a bunch of the emails and who knows?

That's a nice idea, Darren. Here's my thought:

Look inside these magazines for any topics or articles that you can contribute or provide a compelling OPPOSING commentary on. Just make sure to it's some riveting content, and that will increase your chances of them giving you some publicity. After all, publications are looking for unique content to do stories on. Blog opinions can be a hot topic. Just my 2 cents.

2 magazines i've emailed = my blog has been mentioned in both magazines.

I just wanted to test this theory out - in the past I have emailed other magazines but my emails have been too long and bullshit (to put it bluntly) so I went down another route of basically writing a very short email. Saying this is my blog if you wanna look at it here you go.

I've not tested these theory on general websites - simply because blogs are more interesting to people that business websites. They want to read something controversal - or interesting to the reader.
