So you think you know about blog commenting right? Check out this blog post and maybe you might learn at least 1 new thing.

Most people in the SEO game know that commenting on blogs and websites can be a great way of gaining attention . Major advantages include:

• First and foremost, it can drive traffic to your own blog/website
• You build relationships with an online community/target audience
• Other bloggers will visit your blog and comment on it
• Because you need to read the post and other comments before making your comment, you expand your knowledge base
• You get quality backlinks for your blog/site which will help push your website up the search engine rankings.

Commenting really can be a useful tool in building online relationships – both with your target audience and as a way of connecting with other professionals in the same field. Your comments can lead to all manner of advantageous connections. After all, it was my comments on search engine people that led to me being invited to write this guest blog post – a welcome opportunity for me!

However, there is an art to commenting effectively and you'll need to make sure that you follow some basic guidelines so...

Well, the POV here is probably over-optimistic. Blogs are under massive spammy SEO strikes today, and comments too often depend on page PR, not the content itself. A no-good situation, but that's what I see.

I enjoyed reading the blog post. I think following the mentioned tips can really help you to make your blog comments get approved by the blog owners.

I also agree with the author's point of view, that blog commenting can be a great way of building a good relationship or starting a good connection with other bloggers.

Do unto others... yea. This is a good blog post, and I really hope that many follow it. I write, as I am sure many do, but what really gets me is that what I write about for the company blog has absolutely nothing to do with SEO, angry birds games, or any games in general. It just leaves me deflated thinking someone found something useful out of something I said, only to see its another "promotional" post on where to get the latest games, spa vouchers, SEO techniques and services and that's just the safe topics.

Some use software and to be honest, do you know how easy it is to see whether or not they actually read the post? It only takes about two seconds. You weigh the comments with visitor stats and hey presto. And that's besides the obvious spin titles where they have added my post title into their comment to tell me how well I write. Bloggers don't write new posts so that people can just toss comments in for links, they write because they want to share something, and in some way build some sort of network with other bloggers (lol rehash).

Going back to the post, something that I think is the most important is that you actually read the post first. It takes a lot of time to write something and it makes a blogger feel good when someone has a question, or if someone was genuinely helped by what they have written and if you take the time to read and add a meaningful comment, you will be rewarded. Sometimes a blogger will follow you to your blog and read your work, and comment as well. et voila - instant networking.

It's fine to post links to your own blog, but try to make sure that you also post links to other blogs/websites that will be of interest to readers and other commenters. This will serve to prolong and extend the discussion.
I think this should have been written as a warning...
Something on the order of... Be careful about posting links to your own blog, or other sites, lest your post be seen as spam. Having a link back to our own sites is generally acceptable in the name address field... more than that should be carefully considered.

Also... Not sure about his entire thesis about getting much traffic.
Commenting regularly on blogs can build relationships with the writers, and particularly on target replies may get a bit of visitors as well, but personally, I've found that traffic to be fairly limited.
