first blog!

ok, so I have finished building my first blog (it isn't mine, but I put it together and have a vested interested in its popularity!)

It is a bit of a niche, hair loss and hair transplants, and as most other sites on this subject are MFA, it is unlikely Im going to find related blogs to link with.

Is it worth submitting to the blog search engines? Would people search a blog SE for something like this?

If blog rolling (is that the right terminology?) is out of the question because of the lack of similar blogs, what are my options?

To get into the blog engines you probably just need to ping them. I'm not sure what blog software you used, but most should have something where you can send out pings to a variety of blog services. As soon as you publish a new post all those blog engines crawl the site within minutes if not sooner.

I do actually get traffic from people searching at Technorati. I think maybe one other engine too.

There are also a lot of directories specific to blogs and other RSS feeds. RSSTop55 is a good list to start with. You can also do the usual searches 'rss submission' 'rss directory' etc.

I haven't set it up myself yet, but many blogs will have links at the end of posts to bookmark the post at del.icio.us and other social bookmarking sites.

Otherwise the usual seo still applies to a blog. I've found that be keeping a post focused on a topic it's relatively easy to get ranked for search tail phrases. Blogs provide a great way to target those longer keyword phrases.

Yeah, promoting a blog on a topic such as this could be pretty tricky. If you're using WP, make sure you have this in your update services box: http://rpc.pingomatic.com/

Pingomatic will ping approx. sixteen different blog engines each time you update.
