Blog Pings!
An easy way to promote a blog is to use pinging tools everytime you make a new post. This gets you listed on the pinged websites. You can ping each site yourself or use these tools:

If you are using wordpress, then you can automatically set it up to ping as many pingable directories as you like.

Well, this blogging and pinging made tons of dollars to people (or, shall I say blackhats  ) in 2004-2005.
Search on Google about this "blog and ping" stuff and you will get tons of site explaining the process and the use. You can also try wikipedia.

It's when you notify a specific site that you have made an update to your blog. The process of notification is referred to as 'Pinging' the site. Typically, the site in question will then archive your posts so that it's searchable, ala Technorati style.
