I guess the logic hear would be .....that search engines love dynamic site...

The crawlers love to chew on new content..personally havent given much thought

Plus the fact a ping gets sent out (if you choose so) and it then pings all the other ping sites, and they all link back to your post if someone does a search for it. I am not sure how to explain, I just know it's a good thing.

Yep, blog helps in getting high ranking. Blog contains fresh content & Search engines like fresh content. Blog contains fresh content, which helps in getting more backlinks. When your backlinks are more then it helps in high ranking. Also when you give informative posts to visitors, then your visitors are converted into customers. Like this way blog also helps in promoting your site.
