squidoo is an excellent resource to use if you are selling a product or marketing a service. You can use Squidoo to discuss some of the topics on your site and link to them through there, but thats honestly not what the squidoo service is supposed to be used for.

You could always pull a John chow and have some sort of kick ass contest where contestants have to link to your contest or to your page in order to enter. That's how John chow in his early days ended up with so many backlinks which are now starting to pay off.

I think social bookmarking and forum posting are the most effective way to promote your blog but you can also try link trade with related sites...
