To add to the above techniques I would say that you should be commenting on various different blogs which may or may not be relevant to your blog, with a url pointing to your blog site in the signature. Its one of the effective ways of generating traffic.

And another thing, write articles and submit to article directories, use anchor text in the resource box pointing to your blog, that's an additional links to your site.

reddit also is a good social bookmarking website. you can also do some msn and yahoo groups plus answers you can get a lot of traffic with those.

this is what i do on generating the traffics to my site:

1. Forum marketing.
2. Fire my comment to another blog. But, u have to make sure that blog have a big amount of traffics so that u can get some hits from another visitors.
3. Writing articles. I prefer to submit my articles at ezinearticles.com and bukisa.com.
(bukisa.com give u a money for every 1000 impressions on your articles)
