I think it's truly effective to promote blog by means of social bookmarking, blog directory submission and forum posting... They can provide fast good results if you do them efficiently....

The majority of referral traffic to my blog comes from social bookmarking sites. If you time it right Reddit brings 30 immediate hits in an hour for anything I post. I think weekday afternoons are best.

Social bookmarks have a major indirect traffic result which is quick indexing on Google (like within 5 minutes via Digg!) and increasing page rank because the social bookmarking sites have high rank.

My best tip is to only submit to sites that let you import your IE favorites (of course add your blog posts to your favorites). Thats sites like faves.com, delicious, yahoo web 2.0, and there are like 30 others. Hand submit to is worth it for key places like Digg, Reddit, Danogo, and Propellar (AOL).
