template is simple and nice and you must update your content every now and then. Don't put animated designs so that it will upload easily and visitors will not leave your blog because of loading time is too long.

I agree updating often with interesting content and a nice design will help. I also say put your personality into the blog, know your target market, and be funny and have fun.
