Anyone experienced promoting blogs to gamers?
My next blog will be dedicated to World of Warcraft. I'm wondering if nayone has any special ideas for reaching WoWers or online gamers in general...

search for online community about WoW and try to interact with them.
tell those people that you will have this blog about WoW.

promoting games through blogs is easy - the other way i am not to sure. you may want to contact a few gaming sites and ask for a linkback and offer a site review etc. pm and i will give a freebie link on one of my gaming sites - most are pr5

Like what the others said, joining communities dedicated to WoW and online gaming will be a big help. Next thing to do is to fill your blog with news, codes, information, insights and reviews - things that will make people return to your blog regularly. I'm a gamer and that's the stuff I look for in game-oriented blogs.
Coverage of gaming conventions is a big traffic puller too. Oh and try to submit newsworthy entries to social bookmarks - that garners a lot of traffic too if it's interesting enough.

There are a lot of gamers around, through the internet by forums, online communities and even some other related game blogs. Am sure you can promote your site/blog easily.

I used to have a PR3 gaming site, so I can give you some tips:
1. Gamers are very fun-loving people. Use lots of humor and sarcasm.
2. Many gamers are Asian/foreign, so don't be overly culturally insular or ethnocentric.
3. Gamers are very intelligent people, so don't dumb things down (at the same time, remembering #2, don't be overly verbose).

Yeah I suppose wow forums with a link in my sig or something could be worthwhile. Naturally I'll be trying to get attention from other WoW blogs and will write about them on my blog. Thanks for the ideas!

Do you think WoW players play simple flash games? I wouldn't have guessed...

James, my only word of advice in this endeavor would be to make sure you yourself are an avid WoW player. The most successful WoW blogs out there are created by those who play all the time, knowledgeable of their class, and have the time to devote posts to end game and ability to get to end game quickly.
I say this because I'm an avid WoW player. Personally I don't think WoW players are generally interested in any other game, especially online flash games, so that would probably be a waste of time. WoW visitors are looking for content, tips, and easter eggs more than anything.
I have some experience with a gaming blog, which I sold off to a competitor, and I'm pulling in some decent WoW keywords right now on one of my sites. If you're interested in a heads up, please let me know.
Good luck.

Actually I am trying to differentiate myself from the end game raiding and arena pvp blogs. My real interest is world pvp and BGs so that's where my focus is. Hopefully there are a few wowers like me out there.
By the way the site is online - I'll probably be in the reviews section looking for advice soon.
A heads up about good keywords or anything now would be sweet!

its difficult to put tips and tricks for game unless u are a master ..
its easier to just post current updates in games .. and back link to them from some forums which are not massive.

Well I will be one of the first to say that your new blog is going well James. I have seen it first hand as James and I came across each other due to the fact we both have WOW blogs.
You are doing a good job with keeping some interesting articles on the site and that is what will keep your traffic building. I have been an avid player of WOW for a few years now and some of the points that are made about knowing as much about the game is exactly to the point. There is no hiding the fact that you may not be avid player when you are dealing with WOW addicts like myself and many others.
Keep up the good work on your blog James.
Kevin

Same principles apply
I guess any stats for an existing gamer blogs will help. Where is the most of the traffic and RSS subs come from? The answer to that will help you to promote your blog effectively.
Good luck
