you can also gain traffic from commenting on other blogs, since its new, you cant expect traffic from SE for a while so SB are one of the best ways.

Most of my blog's traffic came from google searches.. Others came from referrals such as forums, article directories, social bookmarking sites...

I get the most of my traffic from social media sites. I think that is one of the best ways for a smaller blog to gain som traffic. Sure there are som negative sides to it also. However I wrote a big post about it if anyone is interested: http://hightechz.com/?p=50
