no comments!
my site thegreylist.com is not getting any comments, the traffic is starting to rise but I feel like the traffic is fairweather.
Is this because I'm not building a strong enough fan-base? Or is it due to the fact that a person needs to register with wordpress before they can leave a comment?
let me know from your experience.
also. I have McAfee site advisor and because the previous owner of my site domain was a putz and sent out spammy emails I can't get rid of that awful red "x" next to our site. whats up with that.

most people love to leave a comment without any rules and will more love if you give them award. moderating comments is better enough than you ask user to register before leave a comment. if possible award them with do-follow link. controlled by moderate incoming comments and trackbacks.

Asking people to register before commenting is a really efficient way of keeping down the number of comments.

Broken code and FHM are right, when you let your visitors registered this will help you avoid the spammers that will post a comment to your blog.

I havn't read any of your blog, but maybe try making better posts. My blog is about 4 days old, I just paid people $0.50 for a blog comment, and a few others came as I got it featured on stumbleupon. Good luck buddy.

Tristangemus,
You paid people to post comments on your own blog?
Why?

Visitors will tend to comment your site if your post are good. I mean you have to post some interesting topic that can catch the attention of your readers.

Most users want to make it easier to comment on your posts. Making them register just for them to comment would be really time consuming on their part. Comment moderation I think is enough... And the most important thing, consider your post to be catchy and worth commenting for...

Comments from your visitors is a thing you cant control on. You want you posts to have comments, you must write a very interesting post that after reading it, lots of reactions may arise.
Requiring registration before leaving a comment is good so you can lessen the spammers on your blog.

According to Shoemoney, his most faithful visitors do not leave comments at his blog. And less than 1% of his visitors do leave any comments at all. I wouldn't personally worry about it too much.

Have you experimented with polls? Or asking in a stronger way for visitor interaction? I know that sometimes I just blindly search the internet, not even thinking about giving my opinion. But if someone asked...

As a reader, I won't comment if I have to register first, and I'm more likely to comment if you ask a question, for my opinion, etc.

I agree, making people register is almost like saying please don't comment. Make it so anyone can, and because you have a WP blog, just use aski plugin to kill the spam. It works very good. Also, you might want to try making one of your posts just a question, to see if any of your readers are alive. Maybe make a small contest or something.

I too do not comment on a blog if I have to register. You can still moderate the comments before they go live, so unless you are trying to build a registered user base making the users register greatly reduces the likely hood of a comment.
