I would also consider making your blog a 'Do Follow' blog i.e. a blog that passes link juice on to those who comment on your blog. Google loves fresh content and an active blog, and people who are looking for backlinks can provide this content for your blog. Just make sure you make them work for their backlinks, that is, approve only the good comments, and filter out the spam.

And then submit your blog to 'Do Follow' directories.

You are right. You will noticed that SE credits blogs when it's in a Do follow Form.

The best tip I could give you is by making friends with bloggers who are in the same niche you are targeting.. If you can build good networks of friends, it will make you easier to gain traffic coming from their promotions.. So just promote each other and it will make both of your blogging experience better. The more friends you more, the more traffic you generate.
