What Makes a Comment Spammy?
Hi all! I know this is a question with an obvious answer but if you are gonna classify them, what are your personal criteria?

Spammy Posts
I think a post is spammy if it does not contribute some value to the initial posting. This means it could be either an unrelated posting or it could be a "me too" type post.

if the relevancy of the comments too far from the initial postings or trying to promote certain services or products which is unrelated to the topic!

I believe a Spammy comment, is a comment that is either unrelated or adds nothing to the topic or promotes a service that has little relevance.
Any post containing links to pharmaceuticals, pornography, real estate, gambling, get rich quick or loans. Im sure anyone with an email or blog comments will know why.

Follow up question:
Do you guys consider a comment spammy if a keyword (instead of an actual name of the person) is placed in the name field even though the comment makes sense?

IMO, I will categorize that as spammy. But of course, it will surely depend on the "quality and relevancy" on the post of the poster. If his/her comment gives value to the original post, but he/she is using a keyword instead of the actual name, I guess I will make an exemption.

If this is the case, I make considerations, if the comment contributes, then I approve it. I feel for those people doing legal link buildings.

A post that says.... Hey look at me.
If it doesn't contribute to the conversation it is spam in my opinion.

When a comment adds nothing to the conversation, and is only self promoting, then it is spam. Spam is like greed, it takes, but gives nothing back.

It is a spam if it's unrelated to the main topic. Like just posting "Lol" and not contributing any thoughts at all. Spammy can also be defined as having links to unwanted sites.

I guess, when someone comments on your site and his/her comment is not related to the article you are posting then you can call it as spamming...

I treat comments as spam if they are just self-promoting their sites without contributing something useful or interesting reactions or information to my blog or if they are irrelevant to my blog's niche and putting too much links on their comments..

when you read in your comments area that is well written like advertisement, then it is a spam comment.
