There is:

1. Self hosted wordpress on your own server and domain name.

2. Blogger - quick and simple.

3. Wordpress.com - lots of good features.

Out of the three:

If I want to post something quick, I'll throw it on my Blogger account.

If I want to post a detailed article with a video and images, I'll post it on my self hosted wordpress site.

My wordpress.com account is the middle ground between those 2.

IMO, from novice users to experts..wordpress is the best since it covers more customization and a lot of control for the users...

but if youre a newbie, i suggest you start with blogspot.. since it offers the most basic controls and more user friendly with its built-in wizard enhancers..makes blogging, a very easy thing to do..

Wordpress is best coz it has lot of plug ins but blogspot first index your posts on google

Standalone blog with Wordpress. I can highly customize it and that's the main thing to keep in mind.
