I find that a little difficult to believe.

20 minutes * 60 (for 60 seconds in a minute) = 1,200 seconds in 20 minutes.

1,200 / 500 = 1 word every 2.4 seconds.

500 * 2.4 = 1,200

You do your research, type it all out, spell check, grammar correction, proof read, and do all of that with an amazing speed of 1 word every 2.4 seconds? And you expect everyone here to believe that? I might be a little slow, but I'am not stupid.

See, I have mentioned only about writing, not about the whole process. The entire process takes a bit more.

Probably what got Kev going is when you said "quality article". You probably meant you could type a rough draft in 20 minutes. Which is still not too shabby!

it really depends on the topic. one page article 550 words on familiar topic takes me less than an hour. of course its a different story if you have to do deep research.

I was wondering about this too...

My articles are usually 500 plus words and it takes me anywhere from 3-6 hours, especially when I have a lot of research to do. I was wondering if it took other people this long. Now I know I'm not alone.

I usually spend a couple hours per post, I usually have gone over it so many times in my head that by the time I get to my computer I really don't have to think to much about it.

My productivity of writing quality articles really depends on the niche of the site. For example, if the niche does have some general facts and issues like in visa and immigration, it really takes me some time just to research for some needed information to be included on the content of my article.

I have a bunch of stub articles that may or may not see the light of day. Then some articles are spurred by timely events. I just posted a new story to my blog yesterday. I worked on it for about 6 or 7 hours. That included research, gathering relevant links to embed, writing & editing & proofing the article, and making a custom graphic for the header (and finding a Creative-Commons photo I could retouch).

The prior blog post before that I spent two weeks writing for a few hours each day. I'd also been contemplating writing it for some time.

It all depends on the story. I've certainly put stories up that only took and hour or two, but I'm a tough critic, and I like to keep my standards high. Most of my articles take a day or two.

It takes me no more than two hours to write it (if I already have the idea and collected inspiration sources). Optimizing the article for certain keywords takes me longer (actually, finding the appropriate keywords)

It depends on how long I have been sleep deprived or if I have the caffeine jitters.

i can't publish an article while sleep deprived. i've tried to write an article or two while sleep deprived but the problem is that it usually ends up having tons of very obvious errors that i somehow overlook. my solution is to write it if i REALLY have to write under those conditions and then save it as a draft until i can look at it with non-sleep deprived eyes and an uncloudy brain.

Sometimes it took me 1-2 hours to write around 1000 words of a product review Part of it to blame for my English as my second language

I don't really consider how long it takes. I am more concerned with how it will be received and understood as good relevant, educational and entertaining content. I try to do as much research as possible on what ever topic I happen to be writing about. In my opinion if you write a one hour article it will show up for what it is worth, unless you are the absolute authority on the topic you're writing about. Although, if you are in fact the ultimate authority on topic you will probably be as thorough as possible and write a well scripted lengthy article that might take more time to write but will be complete and informative.
