Blogger help!

I would like to start a blog for the business I am in, and it seems blogger is the easiest to use. I have been advised however it is better to get my own domain name. I am looking for a suitable name, but in the meantime would like to start my blog. Does anyone know if I can start a blog using blogger without a domain name to start off with....and then "add" or attach the blog to the domain name when I get it? I cannot find any info on this on the help pages of blogger.com.

Yes you can start a Blogger blog without a domain name then link to it from your website.

But I think maybe you misunderstood the info you were given.

It's better to put your blog on a domain name of it's own than build your blog at Blogger.

Thanks...although what I meant is that I start the blog...then get the domain name. Can I then use that domain name on this blog? No website to link to....just a domain name.
Hope this is clear....

I'd get the domain name, web hosting and then install Wordpress on the domain. That way there's no problem forwarding your blog to the domain later.

OK...thanks but now I'm confused. So I thought one of the advantages of having a blog was that unlike a website, there was no hosting involved. When you are stating "hosting" do you mean hosting a website? You seem to be referring to a domain (so a name), not a website. I would like to use blogger, but the default name I can get
will be in the format "name.blogspot.com" but if I buy a domain at say Goddady, and it is name.com, will I be able to use this name.com (preferable) instead of the name.blogspot.com?

You can transfer your blog on custom domain at any point of time, even you can buy domain from Google by paying $10 per annum as well. Start your blog for now and then shift your domain on that.

But why blogger, You should go for Wordpress.com which is free and good for blogging. And you can go for custom domain there as well, I will recommend Wordpress.

I'm new to blogging and having trouble getting anyone to visit my page. I've read all the advice, etc. This thread made me wonder why you recommend wordpress over blogspot. Can anyone give me a general pros and cons or direct me to a prior thread that discusses this. I apologize if it's been discussed, but there are so many threads and beginners like me may be good writers, but don't understand all the nuances of a successful blog. Thanks.
