Here's how you forward your godaddy domain to your wordpress.com subdomain: http://en.support.wordpress.com/doma...ing-your-blog/

It costs like $10 a year though.

If you don't want to do that, you can move your site completely-- database and all.

Here are the instructions for that: http://remarkablogger.com/2008/03/18...m-self-hosted/

you can upload whole word press folder to the main domain. After you will need to import database to database server or you may have it in cpanel login. The you change the setting in word press configuration file for database host, username and password.

- Already have a good blog. Don't want to loose the traffic of it. With fresh unique content it is tough to maintain to blog simultaneously. Because whatever I learn, experiences in my life, if it is sharable with all I note it down at my blog like a personal diary.

Anyway, what I need to do step by step:

1) Book a domain at Godaddy,
2) Host it
3) Transfer my wordpress.com blog to wordpress.org
4) Then transfer the whole wordpress blog to the new domain

Is it ok? Please let me know.

Thanks
Batch

1) Registering a Domain Name - Not specific to GoDaddy, generally how to register a domain name

2) Get your web hosting separate from your domain registrar. Web Hosting Checklist

3) You need to download Wordpress from wordpress.org and install it yourself on your new web hosting via FTP and by setting up the database via your web hosting control panel. Don't use the one click install at the web hosting. Some are out dated and some are branded installs that limit what you can do with your blog.

Repetitious unjustified stereotype. Agree with the rest, though.

Excuse me? The comment about getting hosting separate from hosting was from my own experience and experiences helping customers, not just parrotting someone else.

What were these experiences exactly?
I'd only say separate your domain from your hosting account, which means: be sure you are in your domain's whois, can change the relevant information there and have control about DNS so you can easily move your account to another host when you're not happy for any reason and take your domain with you. This should be no problem with any serious and reliable host and therefore I see no obvious reason to choose different providers.

Experiences with one stop domain registration & hosting (and some also were situations where the one stop plan included web design):

1. Couldn't move domain registrars with ease even though the name in the WHOIS was correct.

2. Couldn't move domain registrars even though the customer's name was in the WHOIS. The firm did not provide login info for domain registrar.

3. The firm put the domain registration in their name, not the customer's even though they paid for it.

From these experiences, it is much better to keep things separate and to do everything yourself even though it may seem daunting to keep track of all the logins.

The best way is to install on the new domain you bought a clean wordpress, and from the wordpress.com blog export all your content, and import it on the new blog.
