What about Blogs?

Hello,

Has anyone tryed using blogs?

While blogging is a completely different breed of people, its a great way to
gain link exsposure. I've been told blogger's hate advertising, and in the
majority of blogs I've been viewing this seems to be true.

The average blogger seems to write about almost anything that amuses
them. There are also some vey good content rich blogs out there.

I guess the main thing I've noticed is that they like to read. You can put
up a content rich website, etc. but whats the odds of people reading
past the first paragraph. Search engines also seem to like crawling them.
Correct me if I'm wrong! Add some links in the side panel, and write
about a topic your passionate about.

Obviously, many methods of gaining traffic or advertising should be in ones
arsenal.

What are your thoughts on this?

Make it a great day,

Robert Palmer

Your are right on with your statements. Blogs are pretty much the latest and hotest thing around for SEO. I and many other webmasters have succesfully used them to get their sites added and spidered quickly!

You are also right that content is important not just a bunch of links and no info it isk ind of frowned upon like writing in all caps on a forum. However if you write articles about whatever type of website you have a link here and there is great. One thing I like to do is write a content article about something that I sell on my site and then put a summary or a teaser on my blog and link to the full length article.

Go ahead adn try blogging! Most people are going for the free blogger.com blogs because Google owns it and therefore will spider your site more often.

Anyway a little info but I have had huge success with it.

Thanks

There are loads of Blogs and most of them don’t rank very well because they have no idea how too.

I find blogs are good if you decide to go travelling and can post updates about your self every day. Most other blogs are too opinionated and feel like a forum without the chance to debate other than a small comments section.

Hey,

Well see- I didn't know Google owned blogger.com. For myself the attraction
was easy step by step instruction, and your blog can be put in their huge
blog directory. They also will host it for free, although I have multiple hosting
accounts, and a dedicated server that I lease so thats not needed here.

I do see what you mean. Its funny that you said that, because I've posted
comments on a few different blogs expecting when I left my email address to

receive some kind of response. Still waiting! A good majority just want
to get their opinions seen, and don't really want your feedback.

One of the benefits that stand out for me- If you own a member site, ecommerce, ezine, etc...
You can post updates, and link to the blog and visa versa. Either way, its
easy and doesn't take a whole lot of time to do, and the result can be
residual traffic.

SEO on the other hand can be time consuming, and you must test, wait, test
some more. Its a learning process, and should'nt be left out. I see the blogs
more as a way of getting out some quick, yet informational content, and
just another way of (linking) so people can find your main site. Having keywords
within the content is mandatory for the search engine placement, but on a
blog must be written so that it can be read by humans.

Another benefit- If you own a website.

Trying to make a sale on the first visit, is like walking into a automobile dealer
saying your just looking, and not expecting them to push a sale. The person
visiting you will have their guard u, and is just looking for a reason to leave.

So a 3 step process would be better in my opinion and experience.
  1. The Blog- Introduction to topic (short and sweet)
  2. Link to website- (full information)
  3. Purchase button- either on site or linking to ecommerce site

I feel if the blog is updated atleast weekly, then you stand a good chance of
getting spidered regularly, and maybe even a bookmark or 2. But I'm still
learning here, as I'm new to blogs, but I can see the direction they are going.

Blogs reply

I started a blog ring on bravejournal.com with several of my friends about a year ago. It caught on and everyone placed links for my sites in their blogs. Now my website, www.clintonsband.com, has a page rank of four that is completely due to blog links. Look at the back links...it's quite interesting.

Blogs are great, I recently started blogging things, mostly about internet related things. I've got some BL's to the Internet Blog and I've put up adsense now already got some visitors a day. It's in google after 4 weeks and I've put up some links to other sites. Get some visitors via blog explosion and you're off to a good start! Happy Blogging

If you are using blogs primarily for SEO and traffic building there are a number of ways to do it. Search Engines L O V E blogs, and that's why I have a new obsession with blogging. I'll share what I have tried so far.

I just developed a SEO & affiliate marketing blog network for my site and am getting traffic and rankings I would not have gotten otherwise. So one of the keys I think is to have the blog on your site as opposed to using one of the hosted blogs like Blogger.

FYI I set up my 1st blog on MSN spaces cuz it was easy and I figured it may get good rankings due to being on MSN. It's one of the top ranked affiliate blogs now on both G and Y and I use it primarily to get traffic to my main site. I now have 5 front page rankings on Y, including #1 - out of 2 million competing pages and almost as good on G.

I just started the new blog network but so far traffic is doubling almost every day so I am VERY happy with the results so far.

I read an ebook ( which I don't usually do) that really boiled the basics down to HOW do I drive traffic with a blog. Its worth a read (just ignore the hypey ebook sales copy.) Once you get into the actual book it is step by step and VERY good. super-bloggers.com

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Careful - search engines have begun to crack down.

Don't put a lot of your time into it, the scam is being closed down shortly.

What Scam?

Using blogs to link to your sites?

Unless you are abusing the linking, I wouldn't call it a Scam.

If someone is trying to trick the engines

trick = scam

Not saying it's bad, but the engines are working really had to capture or keep the market share, so they want people typing, "hair school" to find a hair school site and not a blog with hair school mentioned 500 times.

So they are cracking down on the trick, scam, whatever you want to call it.

Actually search engines LIKE on-target, professional, good content blogs.
It's only when they are mis-used by scammers that SE dont like it.
Good blogs that use white hat techniques wont get banned.

I have a blog just for the sake of it. I use it to rant on politicians and such. It's hosted on my own domain and I did notice that eventhough it is in a /sub/sub/folder it somehow does have more 'weight' in the search engines (Specially Google) than other parts of the site that are also located in sub/sub folders. For one thing, it has the same PR as the main page while all the rest of the sub/sub folders have less PR than the main page.

It's a blogger blog btw, I think that they have a special place in the Google algorithms.

Hope I've not resurrected something needlessly - I didn't quite see the answers elsewhere.

I've got two blogs, one on msn spaces, one within my main domain. The main blog (not msn spaces) is registered with over 100 directories, found on:

Top55 List of Blog Directories. My msn spaces and main blog are both registered with feedburner and technorati.

I've got questions of etiquette, and questions of effectiveness. My blog is WP powered. Typically, I post a two-ad adsense at the header of the post. My signature also contains links back to my two main relevant websites. In terms of "blog culture," is this practice O.K.? My blogs tend to run the line of my current thoughts on something (the outdoors-oriented one, for example, is on a cooking bender, as I am a Chef), and I hope is useful to people - I will often respond to my server logs to things people are querying my site about. But I wonder if the above seems reasonable.

Secondly, is there anything wrong with a blog, such as my main one, residing within the same domain as the site which the blog links back to? In this case, the main site is "www.example.com" and the blog is "www.example.com/exampleblog/".

Cheers.

I observed the same thing about blogs. It is crawled easily maybe because of updated contents.
I had a blog and it has links to other sites and now it is gone. Is it because of the links and ads that I put?
