Verifying ownership for Google Webmaster Tools seems to be a problem for some people. Not sure what they do wrong but if you follow the instructions below carefully you should not have any problem.

My blog is on my own site, but is done on Wordpress. Every time I post here, linking back to my blog, I get an email asking me to approve the pingback.

Here are my questions:
I have pingbacks approved on my site & on the post, so why do I have to approve it?

After I approve it, it shows up on my site as a comment. Not very attractive, or accurate. Is this what I should be doing? What are the benefits/drawbacks of approving the pingback?

Margaret, If I knew what to look into, I would. I have no idea, though. You'd need to give me more information about the symptoms of how you are attempting to leave a comment and what happens. Others have left comments, so I know that is working -- at least usually, so maybe you are on a different browser or something from some of the other people who have visiting? Can you give me more information?

You don't have to approve them. Just mark as spam and will go in your spam bucket.

You can edit them to touch them up if you think it's ugly but want to keep them.

Why would you approve them? Social proof that your post was linked to.

Just watch the other ones you get for fake ones from spammers. Check those ones out to see if they are real and if you want to give them a link back.

Margaret, Because you had included links in your comments and had not been a previously approved poster on the blog, your posts went into spam. I have retrieved them and they are approved now, so you should be ok in the future. Thank you.

Basically, it lets me type in my comment, my name & addy, but then, when I click Leave Comment. Nothing happens. Nothing. Not sure what else to add to point you in the right direction.
