If You Could Write Any New Wordpress Plug-in What Would It Do?
Hey all,
We all have our favorite plug-ins and we all have some that we'd like tweaks to. What changes or modifications would you make to your favorite plug-in or what would you want a plug-in to do that you haven't been able to find?

If I could code, I'd make a template that fixed wordpress' inherent shoot itself in the foot with SEO syndrome. I'd write a template that, depending on front page or post page, changed the page first H1 title from site name to post name while adding the site name after in a lower H tag wrapper but I'd do so in a manner with absolute positioning or some type that kept the site name appearing before the post name Oh, and do it without breaking site layout
EDIT
Insert plugin for template, because it could probably be accomplished with either

Would you do it with that feature alone? Doesn't seem like much by itself. Good idea.

The wordpress stat's plugin, i'd like to see more data.
One feature to improve on would be this stat in the plugin "Search Engine Terms". I'd like to not only see the terms that was used but also which search engine was used to get to that one blog post. Could sorta see what search engines send me the most traffic for that one day for the one keyword phrase. Google may not like that one blog post, but bing may have it ranked on page 1 and i'd never know this.
Yes, i can just login to Google analytics but i use this plugin daily to keep tab's on what links are being clicked on, what terms (keyword phrase's) are used and also the most popular pages visited for that day.
Bing and google don't copy each other search results so it's still good to know which search terms are getting the most clicks for multiple search engines. I don't use analytics not unless a advertiser wants to see some stat's.
Out of alll the plugins i have, i don't really have any idea's on what to improve on or see. I do have a feature i'd like to have coded for my blog one day for a idea i have but i can't spare any extra money at this time.

Snake, if you run Piwik, and use the Piwik wordpress plugin, you'll already get that stuff. I don't run the plugin, I have the Piwik desktop solution, but since Piwik does include search terms and all that, I'd assume, maybe I shouldn't but I do, that the plugin would include it as well. Just a thought since changing from google analytics or simply adding piwik code is essentially easy to do in the template file or with a plugin

I'll have to take a look at that a little more. Thanks for the new bit of information though.

A better syntax highlighter where the user can add languages more easily and has control over highlighting colours and fonts.

Much agreed, present interface seems to give little control over typography, although I've recently seen things like typography, and typogrify plugins when crusing the plugin search in admin

There are syntax highlighters already, they just don't have enough scope for my liking. Adding Objective-C to one of them was one of the most complicated things I've done ever, and I write Objective-C.

I'd write a shopping cart that lets you sell customized products. Some of them claim to do this, but every one I tried lumped them all together. For example, you let customers upload pictures to print on t-shirts. A customer uploads a dog picture for one size small white T-shirt, and then they upload a cat picture for one size small white T-shirt. All the carts I tried lumped these together as 2 size small white T-shirts, when in fact they need to be separate line items so you know how many of which design to print.
If I really had a lot of time on my hands, I'd love to make a custom front-end for low-tech users. The admin of the site would decide which limited administration panels that user could see and organize custom dashboards for each user type. That way, really tech-unsavvy customers who still insist on updating their own sites could access what they need without messing anything up. I know this is built in to some extent, I'd just like to see even more granular control, more like Drupal offers.

I could have sworn the new 3.1 offered even more of that with a custom dashboard for multi type sites? Maybe I was mistaken, I'm pretty sure I read that over on wordpress, their upgrade notes and changes.

Since SEO plugins are quite popular for WordPress, I'd write an SEO plugin that would include basic SEO stuff, but include other things.
Basically take a bunch of SEO plugins and put them into one.

Just for fun now. I would track the spammers back to their host and delete their entire website.

Aha...an automated reply signal "ping" back to their website telling it to terminate itself.

You may be right. I haven't taken time to investigate many of the new features yet.

You don't need to track the spammers, they leave their URL plastered all over their post.

You know i'd love a plugin for the comment feature in which if we tick a option in our admin panel, whenever someone posts a live link in there comment, they get banned automatically. If they can not figure out how to add there website URL in the field box when making a comment then they have no busines posting useless blog comments
I want that type of plugin or feature.

That is quite often true,
But then a lot of time they are practicing their SEO guru methods for clueless people who hired them to promote a site. I not ready to kill the clueless quite yet though it may come to that.
