thinking of removing All Adsense from my Blogs

I'm thinking of dropping ads altogether off my Blogs. The money generated is peanuts and I think it adds a 'desperate' or 'cheeze' factor to your Blogs, like you only have them to make a few bucks. I think it would be cool to have a really high traffic blog and not have any ads at all, it would add a coolness factor. Kinda like the old Craigslist days.

Thoughts?

This should make for a good discussion! It raises the question:

Why do you blog?

On my primary blog (ClickNewz) I could easily remove the ads and keep on blogging - without a second thought. I'm in the process of testing several things with Adsense & Blogs, but will likely end up removing the Adsense altogether eventually.

I look forward to hearing from others on this topic...

That’s probably the most important question to ask when it comes to serving ads on your blog.

The way I see it is if I’m blogging about my life then what’s the point in serving ads? Another waste is if you are using your Blog to promote your own product, Adsense only opens the door for your competition to be listed on your site – unless you block the url.

If the Blog provides a service i.e. ClickNewz or Google Beta info then having ads is providing more sources of information for your readers, earning an income from the clicks is a bonus.

That's an interesting point - that the ads displayed are an additional resource for your visitors. Similar to tags.

There are ways to display ads, or even to promote products as an affiliate, that are not so obtrusive. It's downright annoying to fight ads to read good information (not generally worth the effort). But good placement and a little tact on the publishers part goes a long way towards visual appeal and adding value to the content.

I think everyone has a positive point here. I think that the way you display your ads can make a very big difference on how visitors perceive your blog. If your ads are displayed in an organised manner the visitor will think that this is a blog of a professional “Only pros have ads like that”. To many banners, pop-ups and text ads will leave the impression that you only blogging for money. The point is to do things well enough so that ads are displayed “visible” but in an orderly and classy manner. I personally really enjoy well laid out blogs.

I agree. A little tact is definitely in order. You want to appeal to your readers FIRST, and have the ads actually add value to your site instead of annoy your visitors...

I don't put Adsense on V7N because I think it cheapens it. But I don't think it looks bad on blogs. ...

I love blogging - and its great when you start to receive comments and participation by readers. I don't like how Adsense looks, but I'm earning $100 a month for doing nothing and at the moment I'm playing around to see which fits best.

I've just activiated my invite for www.blogads.com and I'm going to see how these ads look on the blog. I've tried Chikita, and it didn't fit in within a travel blog.

It's not my primary business, so whatever income I earn from it is a bonus, but providing quality content for my readers is first on my list of priorities.

I would tend to agree about the adsense although I use it on one of my blogs.
If you use a free blog hosting service and do not want the service itself putting adsense on your blogs, you may want to consider http://www.blogurple.com They use wordpress and do not put any ads at all.

Great example there... They can't even setup their own blog.

Is that yours?

I only put ads on my blog to see if blending them in would help... just as a test... not only did they do poorly, the site gave me a headache.

I took them all down. No paid ads now.

I agree with you too. I've seen blogs with adsense and I don't like the way it makes your blog look. I also don't want to promote anything. I think it's a good idea to remove the ads.
