Louis, $4 in a month may be really, REALLY good, depending on your traffic. What sort of traffic figures are we comparing $4 to?
Say if you only had 100 unique visitors in the month, that's good. But, if you had 100,000 that's sad. Info man, lets help you make some dough.

Colleen I have to disagree with you, removing borders and matching link colours of the ads to that of my style sheet have pushed my ctr right up.
With high paying keywords such as the ones I target, even a fairly low traffic site can perform.

Would there be any worth in targetting keywords for my personal blog? If so how would I go doing that?

Louis,
You can use section targetting to help emphasize or ignore certain posts. This is the best way to target your keywords.
You can read Google's full explanation of it here.

Well I'd have to add the google comment thingy into each of my blog entries if I understand properly. Painful.

True, but if you just copy and paste, it's actually not too bad

I had mine in my template once wrapped around where the post went. It wasn't "as targeted", but it helped avoid other stuff on my page (blogroll, etc)

Louis this should be plenty to generate some revenue off of adsense. Is the majority of your traffic from search engines? If so, find out what your most popular terms are, focus a few posts on that a week and nail the keywords associated with the term...so to speak.
I've found that wrapping the text around the ads helps a lot of SE traffic, especially that coming from MSN. lol

Agree or disagree, it was based on actual testing. I still prefer to blend, remove borders and match link colors regardless.

What does nailing the keyword mean?
By the way, I'm now at $5.99 US (after 6 weeks)

I think he means picking a topic with a high payout on google ad clicks then "nailing" the subject matter to the point that you get the best ads showing for that post.
then in turn you get higher ($$$) returns per click from your blog.
