What to consider?

Hi

I am in the process of making a blog, forum and directory - hoping the three of them will compliment each other.

The blog will be for a specific field in which people are involved globally. I am not looking to make any money at the beginning but just build up traffic, users, popularity etc., and see how it goes.

What would you say are the most important things to consider for the blog?
