what plugins are a must?

If I was starting a blog tomorrow, what plugins are a must?

Think about security, connecting socially, commenting, SEO, etc...

What plugins does a brand new blog need to succeed?

Hmmm

You need a caching plugin which makes your web host happy because you saving bandwidth and maybe speeding up the blog. http://www.w3-edge.com/wordpress-plu...3-total-cache/

Of course a SEO plugin and I recommend YOAST

A captcha plugin to preven most of the automated bot's from registering as members and posting blog comment's.

A contact us plugin so people can have a way to contact you. http://www.fastsecurecontactform.com/

I use a disposable email address plugin which I can add email extensions or disallow 1 person from registering. http://www.joeswebtools.com/wordpres...posable-email/

Depending on what you want to do on your blog, the plugins can vary. I think the above plugins is just for a new startup if you wanted to launch the blog within 24 hours with fresh content.

Thanks Snakeair and Andreea_leau!

How about things like "sign in with facebook/disqus/google"?

With the caching plugin weren't these the ones that Sucuri recently announced had major flaws/holes?

And a Better WP Security style one to ensure that everything is somewhat locked down? Alternatives?

I could be starting some hobbie blogs in the very near future and I just want them to be ready to rock from day 1.

About w3c, they updated the plugin after finding out the warning. Here is the blog post about this. http://blog.sucuri.net/2013/04/updat...disclosed.html

My webhost contacted me by email before that blog post went out and told me, the blog was secure and update the plugin but don't touch any settings. My webhost is one of sucuri's partners. lol

I don't use FB connect or disquis because the default comment system is good enough for me. I didn't feel like adding the bells and whistles would make people comment even more. If they want to leave something, just type away. I'd rather have the visitors use the social buttons at the bottom of the blog posts then tweet there comment.

W3 is good but you need to ask your web host if they support the plugin. My web host actually installed and configured the plugin for me according to the server spec's for the package I had. If I tried to set up the plugin myself, I'd not get the best performance out of it or make the blog more screwed up. I'm not a web hosting expert and just pay my bill and that's it.

I have a lot of plugins installed but they do certain things that I want on my blog. Eventually I hope to get some things coded into the theme and delete some plugin's.

There are many SEO plugins and many social plugins in the WordPress code index, what ones do you use and why.

Dan,

Most of the plugins mentioned are very good. I would also add that you could use the Google Analytics plugin for Wordpress. Its super simple to set up tracking on a WP site with it and you can configure a lot of advanced settings without coding.

best

I'd suggest a privacy policy plug-in as things like that are becoming more important these days. No harm in protecting yourself there. Also a sitemap creation plug-in to help with indexing etc.. Plenty of both around, just search on wordpress.org and make your selection.

For me the niche who are using WP have to use All in SEO or Yoast because pros and cons of both plugins were totally decent. Allows you to manage couple of things in a single plugin.
so i think WPier should have to use.

The plugin you need depends on the CMS you are using. If you are using wordpress these plugins are a must.
1. All in one seo plugin by yoast
2. google sitemap generator
3. Wp cache

without a sitemap generator, your wordpress site will be doing fine, because wordpress ping google and other search engines, automatically when you post.
Some of this search engines like google will index the url while some will look for your sitemap.xml and robot.txt to check for new pages on your site.
