hi everyone.. what do you think would be some good tpoic to start a blog on? which have a possibility of making some money.. also what software can i use to start a blog or are there some hosted site which i can do but still use my domain name?

I think blogging is best when the topics are something that you enjoy and have a personal interest in.

Perfect..... sometime back started to write on tech...just because it was the hep thing and well it was a disaster and i wasted a lot of time.

now i just post junk and ya at times some gyaan on my blog

go with what you are best at and the money will come along the way

well if you still want a topic ... the best would be "18+"

no competition can kill it as people just love anything about it.

And ya before you begin and buy your own hosting , try it out first, personally i like blogger and ya it you get traffic and say a cult following then u can buy you hosting and use wordpress

You can get hosting cheap these days. It's worth the few bucks to host it yourself.

i have been thinking hard for the past couple days but still cant come up with something.. there are so many things which i have to keep in mind.

1. Minimal time consuming
2. popular topic..
3. blogging for money

did a research on the most spending advertisers of 2006.. lowermybills was one of them and so was vonage. so if i start a blog which something related to either of the topics and have decent traffic coming in, do you think these guys would be interested in advertising?

am confused on one thing.. should i start a blog on one topic e.g telecom and wait for vonage and similar to advetise one day or start a general topic e.g fashion and make money via adsense?

vonage would def. pay more but may take months before the blog is popular to catch their attention...on the other hand adsense can start paying some $$ for the get go

For full functionality, you're best to host a blog yourself, and it's best to use Wordpress.

Typepad and Blogger will host your blog for you, and you can point your DNS to your blog with them, I believe.

As for topics. Sex, it sells. Sexy girls. Or pie? Just make it interesting.

.. just a little update. i have hosted my wordpress blog and am working on it. should launch the new blog in a week and then wait and watch as the millions $$ roll in lol.. (being ultra positive)

I agree that certainly anything you blog about should be something you are enthusiastic about, and have a certain amount of knowledge authority about, otherwise you'll run out steam or motivation to keep blogging away day-after-day.

If you really want to do a brainstorm about blog subjects, and your objective is to make money, I would suggest top start by KEYWORDS. Find the keywords that people are searching most for on the web, with regularity, and see if that guides your thinking to a blog topic.. that way, you can be pretty sure that you'll pick up some readers!

There are keyword tools like Wordtracker, and also I think at least one of the search engines publishes a list of their top search terms.

Blog about latest technologies like Web 2.0, blog about heavy online competitions between two mammoth companies like Google and Microsoft, blog about quick and effective SEO techniques, program a tiny software (if you can) that can be useful for people and discuss about it on your blog, offer it for free, release it for beta testings, etc.

If you can, design WP, phpBB, etc themes and discuss about it on your blog.

And don't forget to claim your blog on Technorati (It's fine if you've already completed this step).

I think i was in the same boat as you and i have found it hard to find the time to blog unless its something you really enjoy. otherwise it just gets repetitve and you wont enjoy doing it. why blog if you dont enjoy it.

once you get your loyal readers, you will be set. money will come in time. i use dreamhost.com to host my forums and i still use my domain name.

REMINDER: anytime you purchase anything online, search for a promotional code before your purchase. many sites have promotional codes floating around on the net that can save you a bundle.

I don't agree number 2. It does not have to be a popular topic. Niche topics have their advantages too
