How to track cloaked links?

Okay, so I managed to cloak all my affiliate links using PHP redirect files. Now, my problem is that I do not know a way of tracking the amount of times those links have been clicked (other than the tracking provided with each affiliate network).

I am looking for a way to track them myself so I know stats as sometimes the affiliate networks have different ways of tracking clicks.

Any help is appreciated.

You can use Google Analytics event tracking for monitoring outlinks
very easy to do, for example: on click event on a link can be tracked,
to learn more about Google Analytics event tracking visit:

My cloaked links are in a "recommend" folder and than "product name" folder. For example, a sample link would be:

mysite (.)com/recommends/hostgator

How would I do this event tracking, the article from Google is a bit complicated lol.

You need to create a page manually through HTML editor. e.g: notepad. But... you must to know about how to it.

Step by step:
1. Insert all cloaking HTML, tracking HTML and affiliate link into a page with notepad. Then change filename from *.txt to *.html
2. Upload the file to your website through FTP
3. Test it.

Here's how I do it. I have a simple MySQL table similar to this:

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `click_log` (
`click_id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
`click_date` datetime NOT NULL,
`click_ip` varchar(15) NOT NULL,
`click_page` varchar(255) NOT NULL,
`click_detail` varchar(100) NOT NULL,
PRIMARY KEY (`click_id`)
) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 AUTO_INCREMENT=1 ;

Then I have a PHP script that logs all clicks in the same folder as the redirect files (trackclick.php):

<?php

$db = new mysqli('localhost','username','password','dbname') ;

if(mysqli_connect_errno())
{
printf("Connect failed: %s\n", mysqli_connect_error());
exit();
}

$click_detail = addslashes($click_details);
$click_page = addslashes($_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER']);
$click_ip = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'];

$sql = "insert into click_log (click_date, click_ip, click_page, click_detail) " .
"values (now(), '$click_ip', '$click_page', '$click_detail');";
$db->query($sql);

?>

Now all you have to do is to include the tracking script in your redirect files like this:

<?php
$click_detail = "Affiliate Link XYZ";
include("trackclick.php");
header("Location: http://www.affiliate-link.com/");
?>

Now this script is a little rough but you get the idea!

Another way to track your links is thru google analytics URL Builder. I'm not able to share you the link but you can search for it. Anyway, this URL builder will enable you to track a specific campaign that you want to observe.
