Plugin for comment spam?

Hello everyone. My blog is getting more traffic and with that is a ton of comments that are spam. Probably atleast like 80% are spam. Need to go through like 1800 comments. Does anyone know of a plugin that can combat spam really well? Paid or free, I want one that will work very well. Thanks in advance.

If you want comprehensive light solution for blocking spam comments on your website i.e. on Wordpress CMS, I suggest you Use Akismet and purchase it. Or you can Use wordpress Hashcash which is really helpful in this kind of task.

Other thing i noticed that you have bulk comments already in your database. use Bulk Comment Remove on https://wordpress.org/plugins/bulk-comment-remove/ for 1 Click removal

You can use free version of "Akismet" as it is a useful plugin against spam blog comment. Besides it WP Captcha-Free may be good option. I have been tested this plugin.

If your native wordpress comment option is enabled, then you will be getting those comments.
1. Disable Your Native Wordpress Comments
2. Add free comments plugin like Disqus.
3. If you are little exposed to codes. you may edit functions.php and comments.php in editor section.

Otherwise there are lots of paid anti-spam comments plugins. like Akismet

Akismet worked wonders on my site. I used to get constant spam comments. But Akismet cleared that up quickly.

I like Akismet. It does a good job, but it won't catch everything--especially if the user knows how to get past the filters. Have you considered blocking the Ip address of the spammer?

Using third party commenting system like Disqus isn't a good solution. Akismet doesn't work. It mostly moves genuine comments to spam folder and doesn't block all spam comments.

I have found a bullet proof solution against spam and that's the WPNo-bot Question plugin. Unfortunately this plugin doesn't support all WP themes and if your theme supports it, then its great. Once you will install and configure it, spam comments will be blocked completely.

Get it here and see if it works for you:

If your allowed to do a little bit of coding stopping spam is quite simple, you just need to take a few privileges away. First always check if user's/bots have JavaScript turned on if not then block access to posting like what Pinterest does if you turn off javascript you can't access its contents. Then use simple Regex about 90% of spam have website names in it so block off "http","www" and even ".com" . Make sure that everything inside the posting box is lowercased so they can't do anything like "Www". If you can do these steps your spam is stopped. Also if you have spam bots already on your website create a "Hidden" field and make it empty if on submission that hidden field contains a value then that's a spam bot and you can automatically delete that profile.

Although AKismet is enough.

What could also be done is to add Conditional Captcha or Re-Captcha along with it.

Your worries will be gone in no time..

Sometimes having a Captcha is a turnoff for people to comment on your blog. What I am trying right now on my blog I launched almost 24 hours ago is I removed the WEBSITE URL field from the comment section.

This may stop the spammers using automated software from making a submission. It may turn people away from replying because they will get no backlink but I am looking for real comments from people about the content I write. I don't want people replying for a backlink.

Besides, anyone who does not use there name in the comment section, I never approve there comment since they would violate the comment guidelines I created.

I wouldn't use Disqus unless you wanted to. It's an entirely different commenting system for a problem you can fix yourself.

Either:
- Install Akismet
- Get a captcha
- Get a 'prove you're a human' plugin which asks silly questions like 'What animal barks'.
- Require authentication via Twitter/Facebook/Linkedin.

You can use jetpack comment system and also use a captcha to your comment form. It will drastically drop your spam comments.

This can be a deterrent for legitimate commenters also.
