Backdating Posts

My company has been working on building their blog for the last few months, and I've recently noticed the people in the department have gotten into the habit of doing a lot of backdating of posts. For example, they will post 5 posts at once and backdate them so that it looks like they've been evenly distributed over a period of 2 weeks. 2 weeks later, the same thing. I've mentioned this to them, but they don't seem to see any problem with this. I know some backdating is okay, but this seems really excessive and I'm sure people will start to notice. I imagine it works against us in SEO (less frequently updated), and it ensures that some posts are never in prime real estate so fewer people will read them, and that will skew our analytics too.

What do you guys think?

Yes I would say that is a bad practice to do regularly.

How are you going to get the search engine bots to visit your site regularly? Once they learn you post regularly they "learn" to come back more often which in turn can turn into your posts being indexed quicker (if not within minutes).

If I followed your RSS feed I would wonder if something was wrong with your blog.

Being sporatic is also not good to get followers to read your blog.

Yeah, not to mention credibility. If I visit this blog, then 2 days later visit again and see posts that I KNOW were not there 2 days ago, yet they're dated 5 days ago, I'd think "these guys are scammy"

Yeah, exactly. Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I searched around the internet trying to find a blog post or something that explains how it's a bad idea that I could refer them to, but I guess nobody bothers to write something like that because there probably aren't many people that do this.
